The issue of sustainability has not only been a topical one for us for a few years, but we have always paid attention to thriftiness in all opportunities that arise in everyday life.

NEW 2023 – Sustainably warm

We replaced our entire heating system in 2023 with a new hydraulic system. This runs according to the latest energy standards, is completely isolated and guarantees efficient energy distribution without loss.

In addition to heat, we also pay attention to sustainability when it comes to electricity. Our apartment house is supplied with clean electricity from our own photovoltaic system. The hotel uses 100% certified green energy.

Sustainability does not only mean a careful and respectful use of resources, but also a respectful and fair interaction with each other. Actually, it should go without saying that everyone is treated equally, but unfortunately it is far from always the case.

Therefore, the following points have always been important to us

Sustainably warm

We are connected to the local district heating plant. The bioenergie district heating network Ritten, which supplies us, heats exclusively with biofuel - with wood. This wood comes 100% from the South Tyrolean forests and thus the raw material covers the shortest possible transport distances. This means that no fossil fuels are used to heat either the house or the water.

Water, our most precious good

Drinking water is precious. On the arid Ritten, which is poor in water and where the soil cannot store rain and melt water well due to the rocky subsoil, we feel this particularly strongly and have thus learned to use this valuable resource sparingly. We have a private spring that we use to irrigate the park and fill the swimming pools. This way we can avoid putting an additional strain on the drinking water reserves on the Ritten. We also have rainwater collectors and cisterns, both in the hotel park and at our apartment house. This means that rainwater, too, can be optimally reused.

Towels and bed linen are only changed at the request of the guests, and not automatically every day. In order to reduce the huge amount of laundry and the resulting burden on water and resources, we do not use additional towels in the wellness area. We wash exclusively in the in-house laundry. This means that we also avoid unnecessary transport routes for the laundry.

On the plate and in the glass

It is very important to us to combine quality and sustainability in everything we put on our plates. For this reason, we try to use as many products as possible that are 100% from South Tyrol. All dairy products come from South Tyrolean alpine dairies, which guarantee that only milk from South Tyrol is used. The same applies to the eggs. We have a small chicken farm ourselves, whose eggs are used in the hotel. We cover the rest of our consumption with free-range eggs from Unterlahnerhof farm in Oberinn on the Ritten.

There is also a vegetable garden in Bemelmans Park. Throughout the summer we harvest lettuce, courgettes, cucumbers, raspberries and many other delicacies from our own garden and can therefore proudly serve food with real Km0. We also work together with several small farmers on the Ritten who additionally sell us their vegetables from their own cultivation. All potatoes and apples come from the Moar farm in Siffian and the Egger farm in Rentsch. For all purchased fruit, vegetables and cereals, we pay attention to regionality in terms of origin.

We buy our meat from the butcher in the village, the Weissensteiner in Oberbozen. He works mostly with local farmers. We also have our own sheep farm, which enables us to produce all the lamb we offer ourselves. We make sure that the sheep are reared in a manner appropriate to their species, with plenty of free range (the sheep never have to be kept in the barn, which only serves as a shelter in bad weather and as a feeding place) and are kept exclusively on their mother's side. In addition, we attach great importance to pasture slaughter in order to spare the animals the stress of transport.

95% of the wines in our range are South Tyrolean. We are very proud to live in a wine country and thus to be able to offer you a huge selection of noble regional drops. When making our selection, we try to choose as many wines as possible from biodynamic cultivation and from small winegrowers who cellar their own wines.

In the room

Some time ago, we switched to an ecological line for all products you can find in the room. The Nature line is a certified product line and is only made from high-quality raw materials. The products are guaranteed vegan and are not tested on animals and are manufactured in North Tyrol. In addition, all care products are made from biodegradable, renewable raw materials that come from certified and controlled cultivation. You will not find any bath slippers in the room, as an alarming majority of these just end up in the rubbish after use, and we want to live a conscious approach.

We buy all the cleaning products we use from the South Tyrolean company Hygan. They work according to the highest quality standards and have their own research laboratory. They strive to find better and better products made almost exclusively from biodegradable raw materials. The company's motto is: "As thoroughly as necessary, as gently as possible." All the products used are produced in South Tyrol.

The interpersonal

Sustainability does not only mean a careful and respectful use of resources, but also a respectful and fair interaction with each other. Actually, it should go without saying that everyone is treated equally, but unfortunately it is far from always the case. However, we can guarantee for our company that everyone - whether white or black, fat or thin, man or woman, young or old - is treated equally and paid fairly.

Everyone earns according to performance, not gender. Motivation counts when hiring our staff, and certainly not whether one is male or female. We also attach great importance to proper accommodation for our staff. Everyone has a decent single room and their own bathroom. We respect all religious affiliations. At staff meals there are always alternatives without pork or beef. A company only functions as well as its staff, and that is why respect for human dignity is our top priority.

And what else is important to us

The issue of sustainability has not only been a topical one for us for a few years, but we have always paid attention to thriftiness in all opportunities that arise in everyday life. Many activities may seem like a drop in the ocean, and if you only do it once, that may be true, but we have learned from an early age that things should be considered on a yearly basis. All the well water that comes back from the tables and the melted water that remains from the ice cubes in the container at the back of the bar, we use for our houseplant vases on the tables. Any slips of paper that are clean on the back are recycled and used for internal printing. This is how we handle many small mundanities.

We separate all rubbish by recyclables and our caretakers go to the local recycling centre at least twice a week.
