Our wine cellar

Fine wines in the oldest part of the hotel

It is not just the wines in our cellar that are exceptional: the vaults of the wine cellar at the Bemelmans-Post Hotel date from the 17th century and are the oldest walls in the building. Notable too are the centuries-old doors to the cellar with their carvings and paintings. Shielded by the thickness of the walls, the cellar enjoys a stable climate that makes it particularly suitable for storing such temperature-sensitive products as wine.
Wines from South Tyrol received a total of 157 awards in the 2015 editions of the nine most prestigious Italian wine guides, placing the region among the leading Italian wine producers. In relation to the size of its wine-growing area, South Tyrol, with some 5,300 hectares of vineyards (0.75% of all Italian production), is the most distinguished of them all.

Among the wineries and wine estates there are some that have received a number of awards. The Terlan winery, for example, is top with seven award-winning wines; the Bozen winery and the Elena Walch estate then follow, each with five wines: then, with four wines each, come the Girlan winery, the Köfererhof run by Günther Kerschbaumer, the Manincor estate, the Schreckbichl winery and the Tramin winery.

These wines are also available at the Bemelmans-Post: we stock over 100 different wines in our cellar, half red and half white.

The South Tyrolean wine offering is complemented by fine and sparkling wines from the best Italian locations, including big names such as Chianti, Barbera and Morellino.
